Responding to the Local Area SEND Inspection

The Tower Hamlets Local Area SEND Inspection took place between Monday 9 June and Fri 27 June. The full report of Area SEND inspection of Tower Hamlets Local Area Partnership.
Inspectors found that “Children and young people with SEND are genuinely valued in Tower Hamlets”, praising the "highly ambitious" leaders and practitioners that have "successfully addressed the significant weaknesses identified at the last inspection".
The report also highlighted areas for improvement and gave recommendations to help the council, and its partners build on current strengths. These matched issues already identified in the partnership’s self-assessment and deliverables published in the SEND and Inclusion Strategy (2024-2029)
Following the inspection the Local Area Partnership has updated its existing SEND Delivery Plan, which sets out how it will respond to these areas for improvement. The new actions are integrated across the existing six priorities of the plan and are highlighted in green for ease of reference.
The updated SEND Delivery Plan has now been approved by the Department for Education and NHS England.
The plan is monitored by the SEND Improvement Board, which includes our Parent Carer Forum representatives and our DfE Adviser, meets on a quarterly basis and will oversee an annual review of the entire plan in December 2025 to ensure that all the actions remain relevant and fit for purpose. The plan also includes an overview of actions already completed.
