What Parents Need To Know About SEN
"WHAT IS ‘SEN’?" Under the Children and Families Act 2014, a child or Young Person has ‘Special Education Needs’ or ‘SEN’ if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. For children aged 2 or more and young people, special educational provision is an educational provision that is additional to, or different from, that generally made for others of the same age in mainstream schools, maintained nursery schools, mainstream post-16 institutions, or places in England at which relevant early years education is provided. A disability is considered a learning difficulty if it prevents or hinders the child from making use of educational facilities generally provided to children of their age. If a child has a physical disability that makes mobility and independence skills difficult for them, they could have SEN.
